One more "Ellie-isms" and some garden info

This week she's asked me questions about how we were made and how did we get here. Before answering her, I asked for her theories.

Ellie: Well, we were in pieces and Jesus put us together and then told us which house we were going to.

(and to the neighbor) Ellie: Jesus drove us here in His big car down the mountain.

in looking at a picture depicting scripture: Is that our boat from Heaven?

Talking about fireworks: I like the pokey ones.

Retelling a story: "You can't catch me I'm the Ninja-bread Man." (if only I had mad Photoshop skillz like Zina, there'd be an accompanying graphic).

She is now swimming about the pool in her little swim vest. She went from absolutely terrified to nearly fearless in one week.

The garden is completely planted with the addition of some bush beans, another watermelon vine, lemon verbena (which I could devour if it tasted like it smells), cilantro, some new "mother" strawberry plants and a couple more Roma tomato plants.

I use the Mittleider method (scroll down) combined with Square Foot gardening. I also love How to Grow more Vegetables for the section about companion planting.

We grow most things UP. As in up trellis netting. I tried the string method last year, but it didn't work so well for the vining plants (squash and melons) as the weight of the fruits/veggies made them slide down the string.

We've been harvesting summer squash and enjoying them with dinner. The strawberry production is slowing down (boo!) so I'll have to use store-bought strawberries for my yogurt smoothies. Nothing beats the flavor of a home-grown strawberry (just ask the slugs and sow bugs).
